No wind for sailing today. Captain Rob took the ladies to Lilly Island in the dinghy.
As a special program for persons with physical and mental disabilities, we are offering two-hour daysails aboard our sailboat, the Drag N Fly. The Drag N Fly is a 2000 Hunter 38 sailboat located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. We can accommodate up to eight guests, with the typical ratio being one caregiver for each disabled participant. In general, this would entail a maximum of four caregivers and four disabled persons. There are no charges or fees for anyone on these trips.
The Drag N Fly is owned and operated by Captain Robert
L. (Rob) Barker, U.S. Merchant Marine Officer Serial Number 1107669, who is also a Certified Sailing Instructor with the American Sailing Association (although these qualifications are not directly associated with this program). Rob’s wife Nancy and other volunteers insure the satisfaction and safety of the guest crew.
Most of the daysails will be on Saturdays, say, from 10:00-12:00 for the first group, 12:00-2:00 for the second group, etc. You MUST register in advance, and each participant (or guardian) must sign a liability waiver and assume responsibility for their own safety. Instruction will be provided and active involvement in sailing the boat is encouraged. Participants must be moderately agile, and able to climb steps onto the boat and within the boat. We reluctantly cannot accommodate wheelchairs.
Sailing instruction in safety, steering, navigation, and sail handling make for an enjoyable learning experience. Snacks and drinks can be provided at your request. Please accept our invitation to register for a daysail via our email address of firstname.lastname@example.org. This is often a life enhancing experience for everyone.
